Webinar: Uc@mooc, A low cost Open Education initiative to face massification of higher education in francophone African countries
Time: 2:00-3:00 pm GMT
Khalid Berrada, Advisor to the President in charge of pedagogical innovation, responsible of Uc@Mooc project, Cadi Ayyad University, Morocco
The language of the webinar will be French | La langue de ce webinaire est le français
Abstract: Based on MOOCs, this initiative aims to deal with the massification of Higher Education mainly in Africa, as well as to overcome students’ language barriers. On one hand, Uc@mooc aims at reducing academic failure in the south countries (especially Francophones) and on the other hand, to propose new training ways and materials. Making educational contents available online does not require many resources. Production cost do not exceed 2,000 EUR and the production is affordable for developing countries (i.e. Senegal, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Algeria…) that face the same challenges in terms of the growing number of students at Universities. In Morocco, for example, we find “one teacher per every 50 to 100 students, depending of the institution”. The fact of video recording lessons also allow us to save time, adopting an hybrid teaching system or even flipped system. Today available MOOCs are mainly in the English language and there is much work to do to increase a French-language offer. The idea is not to replace the face-to-face lessons, but to put teachers at the center of the educational innovation.
